how to make plarn

February 4, 2012

If you would like to help the Mats for Uganda effort but you can’t crochet, you can make plarn! It’s quick and easy – great to do while watching a movie or some TV. Here is a quick tutorial that one of our Austin, TX coordinators put together:

Our donate button is finally up and working on the right side of the blog (and below). These donations will be used to help pay for shipping the mats from all over the US to Uganda. If you can’t participate in the mat making, you can still help by donating a couple of dollars! So please, consider donating a couple dollars to help us get the mats to those that need them!

Austin, TX Plarn Party!

Here are some fun images from the recent Austin, TX plarn party!

welcome to Stacie!

January 7, 2012

A big welcome to Stacie Helm, our new coordinator for the Seattle, WA region of the country! Her church, Pathways has a group they call “Craftivism.” They use their crafting hobbies to bless and minister to others. They just finished up a project sewing pillowcase dresses for little girls around the world and now they are going help the Mats for Uganda effort! Thanks to all of you!

Calendar, Map & Photos

December 5, 2011

Great things are happening! We now have a calendar of events and map of locations that are participating in making plarn and the mats. If you are participating in any way and want to see your location added to the map, or organizing an event you would like to put on the calendar, please contact Beth Carroll. Also, if you have any photos from your events, please let us know and we can add them to our new photos page!

Welcome!

Thank you for stopping by to learn more about crocheting mats for women in Uganda. This is an effort that is put together by volunteers to help provide sleeping and birthing mats for women in Uganda from what we would consider recycling/trash. We are so excited to be able to serve these women in such a practical and necessary way to provide little luxuries. If you are interested in helping, please contact a coordinator in your area to see how you can help. If there isn’t a coordinator in your area, would you prayerfully consider becoming one? You don’t even have to know how to crochet to be a part of the effort!
